Heidelberg Materials presents record business figures for 2023
Heidelberg Materials looks back at an outstanding financial year 2023. While Group revenue rose slightly by 4% to €21.2 billion in a weak market environment, the result from current operations rose by 29% to €3.0 billion. Specific net CO₂ emissions were reduced by a further 3% compared with the previous year.

Heidelberg Materials and Linde have established a joint venture under the name "Capture-to-Use" (CAP2U) to build and operate a state-of-the-art carbon dioxide capture and liquefaction plant. The world's first industrial-scale carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) facility in the cement industry is scheduled to start operations in 2025 at Heidelberg Materials' Lengfurt plant in Germany.
Lithuanian construction company PST has built concrete bases for wind turbines in cooperation with Heidelberg Materials Lietuva. They used EcoCrete Smart, a sustainable, CO₂-reduced and digitally monitored concrete. The project enabled PST to train in wind turbine construction and to consider digital tools and sustainability as the way forward.
Heidelberg Materials has recently accomplished a significant milestone by performing the first-ever industrial scale test of enforced carbonation of recycled concrete in a cement plant. It proved that mineral carbonation is a promising Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technology. However, this test would be not possible without the scientific understanding of the new CCU technology in cement industry.
